HOW TO DISCERN THE
RIGHT TIME
Ecclesiastes 3:1To everything there is a
season, 1 A time for every purpose under heaven:
We need to understand God's timing. Oftentimes we know what should happen, but we
are uncertain about when it should happen.
When we move to fast, we miss it (ambition), when we hesitate
(procrastination) we miss it.
There are three words
used in the Bible to describe time.
chronos denotes a
space of time, whether short, e.g., Matt. 2:7; Luke 4:5, or long, e.g., Luke
8:27; 20:9; or a succession of times, shorter, e.g., Acts 20:18, or longer,
e.g., Rom. 16:25, R.V., "times eternal;" or duration of time,
E.g., Mark 2:19, 2nd part, R.V.,
"while" (A.V., "as long as"), lit., 'for whatever time.'
kairos primarily due
measure, due proportion, when used of time, signified a fixed or definite
period, a season, sometimes an opportune or seasonable time, e.g., Rom. 5:6,
R.V., "season"; Gal. 6:10, "opportunity." In Mark 10:30 and
Luke 18:30, "this time" (kairos), i.e., in this lifetime, is
contrasted with 'the coming age.' In 1 Thess. 5:1, "the times and the
seasons," "times" (chronos) refers to the duration of the
interval previous to the Parousia of Christ and the length of time it will
occupy, as well as other periods; "seasons" refers to the
characteristics of these periods
hoµra primarily, any time or period fixed by nature, is
translated "time" in Matt. 14:15; Luke 14:17; Rom. 13:11, "high
time;" in the following the R.V. renders it "hour," for A.V.,
"time," Matt. 18:1; Luke 1:10; John 16:2, 4, 25; 1 John 2:18 (twice);
Rev. 14:15; in Mark 6:35, R.V., "day;" in 1 Thess. 2:17, R.V.,
"a short (season)," lit., '(the season, A.V., time) of an hour.' See Hour.
Our concern therefore is with God's Kairos
time for something. We need to
understand and know how to pick up the signs of the times, and act
accordingly. Zechariah 10:1 Ask the
Lord for rain 1 In the time of the latter rain. The Lord will make flashing
clouds; He will give them showers of rain, Grass in the field for everyone.
Principle number ONE
Know the scriptures.
A farmer knows the seasons and how to interpret it. He looks at the wind, the habits of certain
creatures, and the clouds, he can even taste and smell the rain. He has learned to tune his senses to the
signs of nature regarding the change of seasons. Also in the spirit, the word and our
interpretation of it, will show us about things to come, the more we know the
Word, the better we will understand. The
only difference is that the farmer sees, hear and smell in the natural, where
we need to learn to look up and see "the white harvest" look up, and
see beyond the natural, in the spirit.
Hebrews 4:12 For the word of God is living and
powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division
of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the
thoughts and intents of the heart.
The word is a lamp unto our path and a light unto our
feet.
Principle number TWO
Learn how to wait on the Lord. Matthew 6:33 "But seek first the
kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to
you Isaiah 40:3131 But those who wait on the Lord Shall renew their
strength; They shall mount up with wings like eagles, They shall run and not be
weary, They shall walk and not faint. This means wait until He speaks to
you, reveal His Word to you, gives you clarity and perspective. Wisdom is not knowledge it's a person. Job 36:4 One who is perfect in knowledge
is with you. James 1:5 If any of
you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without
reproach, and it will be given to him.
Principle number THREE
Deal with self.
Ambition and Procrastination are the two agents of the flesh that causes
us to miss God.
Ambition: It cannot wait, is always in a hurry, time
is pressure. It gets frustrated when
things aren't happening fast enough.
Ambition uses people, and God to attain its goal. "Please bless this endeavour, Lord"
is often heard instead of "Here I am Lord send me" The success of
obedience lies within the obedience not the outcome. Ambition is I wanting to do something great
for God, where meekness is God wanting to do something great through you. When God says something, it will be
successful and blessed. The antidote for
ambition is meekness and humility.
Meekness is strength under God's control. We learn meekness from looking unto
Christ. Seeing his example. Matthew 11:29 "Take My yoke upon you
and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find
rest for your souls
Procrastination:
Is based within fear and double-mindedness. Fear of man, failure, rejection and
suffering. Fear is a natural tendency of
man and is the opposite of faith. The
safety of our own habitat and surroundings become a place of security. This is a false sense of security. The fruit of this sin are the following: We become suspicious of men and their
motives. We become perfectionist. We do not like confrontation and shift the responsibility
by blaming others. We over-analyse and
can discuss the problem in detail without providing solutions. We justify our behaviour and do not like to
be corrected. James 1:8 he is a
double-minded man, unstable in all his ways. 2 Timothy 1:7 For God has
not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound
mind. The opposite of this act of
the flesh is faith. Faith is seeing
something as so real in the spirit that you base you complete trust in what you
have seen although there are no evidence of what you have seen in the
natural. Hebrews 11:1 Now faith is
the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen. Fear believes something, which has not yet
happened yet. Fear is faith in
reverse. This is why it is so important
to get a (Rhema) Word from the Lord and act on it. Immediate obedience is needed. When you hesitate, you miss it. When you rationalise, you miss it. It is by faith! We walk by faith. "The just shall live by faith"
Faith is being blind in the natural but seeing in the spiritual. Once you have lost your fears you can begin
to trust and act according to the Word of God no matter the consequences.
Principle number FOUR
Learn to trust your spirit. 1 Corinthians 2:9-10 But as it is written:
1 "Eye has not seen, nor ear heard, Nor have entered into the heart of man
The things which God has prepared for those who love Him."10 But God has
revealed them to us through His Spirit. For the Spirit searches all things,
yes, the deep things of God. "The
spirit of man is the candle of the Lord" He will guide you through your
spirit. Your spirit knows things your
brain cannot yet explain. Recognise the
peace of the Lord in your spirit. Be
honest with self and beware of the expectation of man or self. Wrong expectations can fool the heart and
when it does not happen the way we expected it, we are discouraged and loose
hope. Do not compare yourself with
others and do not look at man. Keep your
eyes on Jesus; keep your heart clean from malice and anger. Stay in the peace of the Lord. Do not make haste decisions or give in to the
pressure. "Enter the peace of the
Lord diligently" Learn to relax! Breath!
Only someone that has died to all ambitions and expectations of man, who
has come to the full embrace of His acceptance towards us who believe, can
truly enter this peace, and be accurately led by His Spirit. The things of the spirit is often foolishness
to man. That is why Jesus rebuked Peter
for thinking the thoughts of a man.
Matthew 16:24 Then Jesus said to His disciples, "If anyone
desires to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and
follow Me. What is needed here
practically is the ability to contemplate and meditate. It is when our soul becomes like a crystal
clear pool that we really can hear the drops of His intent. This means you need to know how to calm the
inner turmoil of your emotions and thoughts in prayer and writing, then once
you have attained this consciousness of spirit to wait on Him to fill you with
His knowledge and perspective.
Principle number Five
There is a difference between God's spesific will for your life and His general will. In terms of General Will, I have to know the scriptures and through obedience to His spirit enter the grace to do His will in everything. Not only understanding the letter of the Law, but the spirit of the Word. Living according to the frequency of the Word, and the operating system of the Word. Here we take the insiative to fulfil and perform the Word. In terms of His Spesific will; God initiates and speaks to us about something spesifically, that we shoul obey.
